For those of you who read my blog posts on your computers (rather than phones) you may have noticed at the start of the year I added in a few more drop down menus under my header. Instead of just ‘Fashion’ I now have ‘Advice with Emma’ and ‘Travel’. I guess it’s sort of self explanatory really and for me is about spreading my wings a bit and expanding my blog, writing about not just fashion but other aspects of ‘lifestyle’.
When I started my blog back in February 2016, I choose to become a fashion blogger because that was my main passion and interest. When I look back to those days I felt then that it was also the only topic that I knew anything about. I had a degree in fashion and had always worked for fashion companies so felt that I had some sort of credibility right? However, looking back, Fashion blogging for me was also a way of playing it safe. I could easily justify why, but by narrowing myself to fashion I was essentially putting restrictions in place that stopped me considering what else I could write about.
My journey through education was always hampered by being dyslextic. Fashion blogging was in a way a reaction to dyslexia in the sense that it’s easy to hide behind a nice photo. However I have come to consider that if I accept these restrictions I will always be a prisoner of them. So dear reader I have made the decision not to! As I see it now – the sky is the limit, I am going to write about what I feel is interesting, I am going to try to communicate, most importantly I am going to write. I have no qualifications in travel or lifestyle choices but my blog is going to expand to cover these subjects – I am going to write about them – maybe along the way I am going to expand myself. I am spending the first quater of this year focusing on travel and advice blog posts and I could not be more excited. The fashion posts will be out there every Wednesday and Sunday so that will not change but I hope you will also join me in this new direction.
All this has got me to thinking about the limits we all in some way put on ourselves. As human beings we have so many talents, if only we knew it, talents which could lead to some amazing opportunities and possibilities. In so many cases our early starts in life come to determine what then happens. I would like to think actually we all have more control to do what we want than we realise. Don’t get me wrong if a year on from now I had only just stuck to fashion blogging I would still be delighted but why put limits on what I can do? I want to see what I am capable of and I am so excited that I am giving myself these new challenges. I hope as the time goes on you may come to consider them worthwhile and one thing I do know for sure – I’m going to have a lot of fun trying.
