Single on Valentines day

Happy Valentines day everyone,  I know that some of you will be stressing about not being in a relationship and not having a’valentine’so here’s a little blog post to maybe take away some of the anxieties from you guys not being in a relationship, on today of all days and maybe allow you to re think how being single on valentine’s day isn’t in fact the worst thing in the world.

Lets face it – Valentines day is just another of those marketing days that makes you question your relationships. When I woke up this morning I did somehow think: shouldn’t I have a boyfriend? I had to give myself a gentle nudge to realise: who says should! Certainly not a marketing day designed to sell product. As amazing as it is being in a relationship it’s also great being single and anyway neither of these determine your true happiness. The trick is, it seems to me, make yourself happy first. Don’t spend precious time chasing after guys and plotting how to get the best one. Be happy in yourself and the rest will take care of itself.

I myself am single, I came out of a long relationship a year ago and can honestly say I’ve achieved and learnt more about myself than in any other year of my life. It’s a really nice feeling being independent and taking control of your life, often being single gives the space to achieve just that. I am not saying you can’t do great things in life while being in a relationship but the way it’s worked for me is that time and freedom have allowed me to think about what I really want to do and then pursue it. I didn’t use my relationship ending as an opportunity to jump straight onto ‘Tinder’ and try and find myself another, instead I gave myself a period of time to keep my head down and focus on me and looking back, I am grateful that I did.

I don’t spend any of my day to day life wishing I was back in a relationship because I believe 100% that the next one will happen when the time is right. It will mean I wont be saying ‘he’s nice but…..’ instead I will be saying ‘He’s the one’! In fact maybe down the line I will send this blog post to my future boyfriend – so hi future boyfriend whenever and where ever it is you are reading this. If you trust in yourself the right person will come along at the right time then one particular day 14th February or otherwise is not going to get in the way of that.

p.s: A full blog post in this look will be up on my blog tomorrow.

Okay, so i also thought that valentines was just another marketing ploy but it goes way back to the 14th century which i found out today so apparently it isnt some new first world capitalist ploy! I’m exactly like you right now, not wanting a relationship because i know it’ll come when i’m ready.

You’re so accurate on this post. As a single person myself, I’m cherishing the time I have to spend with myself, getting to know more about me, and making me the best person I can be. Also knowing that when the right one does come, I’ll be right for him too.

    Thanks for sharing.
