Last week I got the ‘call of the countryside’ or to put it another way I wanted an excuse to wrap up in a warm coat, scarf, and wellies and be surrounded by fresh air and a bit of countryside hospitality. So it was time for a road trip and my first stop was The Runnymede on Thames which although a short drive from London was in the heart of deepest Surrey.
On arrival pretty much the first thing I did was head straight to the hot tub which (as you can see in the pictures) was an outside hot tub overlooking the river, with a beautiful view of the surrounding country. There was something really magical about being outdoors in the freezing cold weather and yet having the bubbles to keep you warm. Normally I can only stay in hot tubs for about 5 to 10 minutes without wanting to get out but this time I stayed in for an hour watching the sky go from blue to pink as the sun went down which was so SO beautiful.
Later on the food at The Runnymede was exceptional, I guess helped in no small part by my being outside all day in the fresh countryside air. I’ve got to give a special mention to one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had – the skinny Mojito.
However, the best part for me was the amazing Spa which had a wonderful array of treatments and a fantastic steam and sauna area which was just perfect after coming in from the cold outside. There was also the most relaxing massage chair in the changing rooms which I got addicted to in the short time I was there. I couldn’t have enjoyed my stay at the Runnymede more and it made a lovely break from urban life in London.
